Client: Sony Foundation
Event Type: Charity
Venue: Woolloomooloo Wharf, Sydney
The Event
SENSE was contracted by Sony Foundation, the charitable arm of the Sony Group of companies to manage their largest annual fundraising event for 2009, ‘Wharf 4 Ward’. The event (previously the True Colours Ball) was held on Woolloomooloo Wharf in conjunction with seven restaurants Aki’s, Velero, Manta, China Doll, Otto & Kingley’s Steakhouse.
A large covered stage was constructed to showcase Sony artists such as Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, David Campbell, Hugh Sheridan and the Top 5 Australian Idol contestants throughout the day. Two large LED screens provided ample viewing along with fourteen additional LCD screens and two enormous 103” LCD screens – the largest available in Australia.
The Idea
The challenge for this event was to engage guests from all seven restaurants and give them the feeling of being part of the one event. To do this a 150m long red carpet connected the promenade with huge flags lining the wharf.
Three cameras and the eighteen large screens enabled guests to view closely what was happening on stage and across the event at all times. To top it off SENSE negotiated the inclusion of a 60ft motor cruiser and temporary floating dock to deliver some very special guests to the event, the final touch of glamour.
Success
A unique and ambitious concept combined with a challenging and inspiring venue more than justified the successful outcome for the Sony Foundation, the event having raised more money than ever in the past.
